The IDEA (Integrated Development through Environmental Awakening) is a research and development organization established in 1981 under S.R. Act 21 of 1860 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
IDEA is also registered with the ministry of home affairs,Government of India,New Delhi,under FCRA-2010.
IDEA’s birth and growth engineered by Prof. K.J.N.Gowtham Shankar its Chairman, reflects the fruition of a cause - his causes: “THE FULL PARTICIPATION OF TRIBALS IN INTEGRATED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WITH ENDOGENOUS DEVELOPMENT (ED) APPROACH in Eastern Ghats.” Therefore, IDEA aims at promoting:
A development that suits and meets the needs of the poor.
• Comprehensive sustainable endogenous development which is promoted with judicious integration of local knowledges, values, customs, worldviews and resources with modern knowledge, technologies and institutions.

Action zone (Projects with direct participatory action programmes [development and participatory action research):
North Eastern Ghats covering: Western, central and KBK zones of Orissa and coastal and tribal belts of northern Andhra Pradesh including Khammam, Warangal and Adilabad districts.
Networking zone (Action research, ED model building, research and development and networking activities):
North Eastern Ghats – Bastar district, Chhattisgarh, Central India – Madhya Pradesh
North West India covering Himachal Pradesh, Utter Pradesh and Uttaranchal
IDEA’s philosophy emphasizes the need to promote “Emotional integration (minds and hearts) and Awakening” in the target groups to achieve “sociologically acceptable, economically viable, environmentally sound and culturally ethical lines of comprehensive sustainable integrated development through endogenous development approach (ED)”
