I.K.R.C. – Indigenous Knowledge Resource Conservation Centre
A
division of IDEA, which is developed to conserve several indigenous
knowledge, worldview practices and genetic resources to conduct
studies and experimentations for validations. This is helping the
tribal communities, researchers and development organisations to
prepare strategies for endogenous development of the tribals in the
region. This indigenous knowledge conservation centre is preserving
several eco-agricultural, cosmovision and anthropological profiles,
literature and specimens (prototypes) collected from various tribal
belts, covering about 40 communities.

of IDEA. A Pioneering effort of IDEA for development interaction and
natural resource conservation services.
Aims:
1)
To contribute to responsible management of nature and
natural resources. Sustainable tribal and rural development by
facilitating the development management trainings to development organisations, individuals, institutions and development network
agencies.
2)
To provide technical and management support and
services to development organisations, which are striving to promote
endogenous development with the integration of indigenous knowledge,
modern knowledge systems and worldviews.
3)
Strives
to increase the capacities of member groups and channel the flow of
endogenous development information and expertise between members.
4)
To
provide social technology / consultancy services including training
on project planning to project staff, target groups.
5)
To undertake endogenous development research and expedition assignments,
consultancies, experimentations and trainings to NGOs, Government
development agencies and funding organisations.
6)
To also
undertake specific bio-cultural and ethnological studies,
eco-development and eco-tourism project feasibility studies and also
conduct appraisals and evaluations of sustainable eco and watershed
development projects, indigenous knowledge related endogenous
development projects, herbal health and nutritional projects and
livestock management programmes. Specific costs will be charged for
each service provided.
7)
To stimulate discussions, intercultural dialogues, lobbying, workshops,
seminars and networking etc., among development communities and
farmers at national and international level on endogenous development
interaction and natural resources conservation.

OBJECTIVES
* An informal forum to facilitate the coalition and networking
activities of the likeminded NGOs and researchers interested in
research, documentation, conservation and revival of indigenous
knowledge to promote integrated sustainable endogenous development in
tribal and rural areas.
* A forum to promote development interaction and inter-cultural
dialogues between the member NGOs - researchers and between the
target groups and member NGOs and researchers to enhance and revive
endogenous development through proper participatory action research
methodologies, experimentations and validations and threory building
of development siginificant worldview practices (cosmovisions).
* A forum to promote cross cultural dialogues between the inter and
intra bio-cultural practices and integration of indigenous /
traditional knowledge systems, worldviews and traditional
institutions and modern knowledge systems, worldviews, and
institutions to achieve sustainable common future.
* A forum to facilitate the target group members to participate in
participatory action research programmes for documentation,
experimentations, enhancement, revival and integration of their
indigenous knowledge, worldviews and institutions in the modern
development to achieve sociologically acceptable, economically
viable, environmentally sound and culturally ethical lines of
sustainable integrated endogenous development.
METHODOLOGY
* The IDEA as a facilitating agency, through its Dinarcs division,
facilitates its members in different regions to coalate and interact
in the regional forums who shall work independently within the above
frame work of objectives of IKREF. The convenors in the regional
forums shall take up the independent responsibility to promote and
strengthen the IKREF regional units and co-ordinate and facilitate
the necessary technical support to its members to realise the overall
objectives of the IKREF. IKREF is only an informal forum and does not
provide any financial support to its members.
* The resources necessary for the IKREF activities shall be mobilised
by the concerned regional units.
* Each regional unit shall select the priority areas for IKREF
activities and also undertake the research, documentation and
development (enhancement) of selective common programmes. Eg.
Agro-ecological aspects, health and nutrition and related development
significant worldview concepts.
* The principal co-ordination unit (IDEA) shall facilitate and
co-ordinate the work of the regional units and assist and support
them with needed technical inputs and guidance for smooth and
qualitative functioning of the regional units, initially for a period
of 3-4 years. Mr. K.J.N. Gowtham Shankar shall be the Principal
convenor and co-ordinate the overall activities of the IKREF, through
IDEA's Dinarcs division, with the support of the regional convenors.

* Each regional unit shall be called as IKREF regional unit (in
technical collaboration with IDEA):
1. Unit – 1: North East region - IKREF (in technical collaboration
with IDEA)
2. Unit – 2: Northern region - IKREF (in technical collaboration with
IDEA)
3. Unit – 3: Southern region - IKREF (in technical collaboration with
IDEA)

KASTURI - the medicinal plants conservation and research unit
KASTURI – which is a part of Indigenous Knowledge Resource
Conservation (I.K.R.C.) of IDEA, with a range of rare medicinal
plants of about 500 species under in-situ conservation and
being managed by the tribal herbal medical practitioners by name
Dhisaries and Guniyas and Farmers Research Unit staff of IDEA. A
